A new waste truck and eurocontainers for separate collection of waste in Viliejka

On the eve of Earth Day Viliejka received a new waste truck and more than 100 containers for separate collection of waste. A special ceremony of transferring the equipment bought with the money of the European Union was held on the Vilianinsky farm on Vilieyshchina on April 21.

The purchase of new equipment is one of the activities of the EU project “Demand for Good Governance in Housing and Utility Sector”, implemented by IPO “Ecopartnership”, Viliejka and Ivje District Executive Committees as well as BSCP.

The festive atmosphere of the meeting brightened up not the spring weather for citizens of Viliejka and guests fr om the capital. Representatives of the Delegation of the European Union and IPO “Ecopartnership” were met with a loaf and a brass band from the Viliejka Children's Art School.

Welcoming remarks were said by Elena Rakova the European Union project coordinator and Yulia Yablonskaia chairperson of the IPO “Ecopartnership”.

“The project is targeted towards improving the infrastructure for waste management in the district, raising awareness of residents on resource and energy conservation, improving the work of the housing and utility sector,” said Elena Rakova. “We pin great hopes on Viliejka and confident that with a new waste truck and also eurocontainers for separate waste collection the three-year project will not only transform the city but will also help its inhabitants to cultivate an environmentally friendly way of life”.

The deputy chairman of the Viliejka District Executive Committee Gennady Kostevich and the director of the Viliejka Housing and Utility Viktor Pavlovsky cut the red ribbon, which symbolized the transfer of equipment. Elena Rakova also handed over the keys to the new waste truck to the Viliejka Housing and Utilities.

The driver of the waste truck drove up to the site with eurocontainers and unloaded the contents of one of them into the body to demonstrate how the new equipment will be used.

The waste truck can be easily found on the streets of Viliejka by stickers on the body with the slogan in Belarussian that claims to separate waste collection (“Хопіць смецце памнажаць! Лепш яго рассартаваць!”). Stickers that will prompt citizens of Viliejka what wastes they should be thrown away are placed on eurocontainers.

After the solemn ceremony, the guests went to the Viliejka Secondary School No. 3, wh ere they attended a lesson devoted to waste management. The guests gave the students colorful children's books about waste collection.
