The Faces of Projects Photo Exhibition has been on display in Horki since June 20. The exhibition is dedicated to 29 projects implemented in Belarus with financial support from the European Union.
The economic, social and environmental projects covered the application of energy-saving and green technologies, rural development and entrepreneurship support, aid to children from the Belarusian Children's Hospice and women survivors of domestic violence, environmental protection and sustainable resource management, promotion of the European approach to education and science, preservation of historical and cultural traditions.
The opening ceremony participants were welcomed by the Chairperson of the Horki District Council Chairperson Ms. Oksana Ogorodnikova and Ms. Natallia Stasevich, Project Coordinator of EU Delegation to Belarus.
Ms. Stasevich mentioned that the stands display brief stories told by the participants of the EU projects for Belarus and Belarusians. These are projects on clean water/air, energy efficiency, entrepreneurship, our health, and social integration and engagement regardless of age, sex and social status, on development of our cities and towns.
Yuliya Zhgun, UNDP Programme Associate, presented the project on Preventing Non-communicable Diseases, Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle and Support to Modernization of the Health System in Belarus (BELMED) and described its outcomes.
BELMED is implemented by UNDP, WHO, UNICEF and UNFPA in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Belarus. It is mainly aimed at supporting efficient prevention of non-communicable diseases. In particular, the project promotes healthy lifestyle concepts and prevention of non-communicable diseases caused by such risk factors, as smoking, alcohol abuse, unhealthy diets and low physical activity. It also helps enhance the system of prevention of children's diseases and injuries, pilot programmes on breast cancer screening are implemented on the regional level, and supports modernization of the Belarus health system with a focus on primary care.
The exhibited projects will be available for public viewing through July 2.
The next opening event will be held on July 4 in Rečyca.
