Education and volunteering

Study, work and make friends in Europe

Since 2014, more than 1500 young people and academic staff from Belarus have received Erasmus+ scholarships to study, train, teach and connect with other young people in Europe. Taking part in an Erasmus+ programme will allow you to acquire new skills and knowledge, increase your proficiency in foreign languages and improve your career prospects.

You can apply for an Erasmus+ scholarship to:

40 universities and other higher education institutions across Belarus offer EU-funded exchange programmes allowing students to study in Europe.

The EU provides up to 1500 EUR for travel expenses and an average of 850 EUR per month for living expenses.

Work placements and traineeships in Europe have been available since 2018 for students enrolled in higher education institutions in Belarus at Bachelor and Master's level. Doctoral candidates and recent graduates are also eligible. Work placements can be combined with a study period abroad.

The EU offers grants covering travel and living costs.

University students can apply for scholarships to complete an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's Degree. Students study in at least two European universities and obtain a joint, double or multiple Master's degree.

The EU provides a monthly living allowance for the entire duration of the study programme. The scholarship also covers travel and installation expenses, tuition fees, full medical insurance and other costs related to participation in the Master's course.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degrees

Youth exchanges are available to young people aged 13 to 30 and can take place both in a European country or outside the EU. Participants from different countries take part in workshops, exercises, debates, outdoor activities, and other activities on a common theme. Youth exchanges are conducted outside the school environment.

The EU covers travel expenses, accommodation, full medical insurance and other costs related to the exchange.

Become a volunteer in Europe

Since 2014, the EU has supported more than 140 projects involving young Belarusian volunteers. Volunteering in a European organisation is a great opportunity to gain work experience and improve your proficiency in foreign languages. Volunteering projects take place in many different areas including youth work, cultural activities, social care and environmental protection. After completing the programme you will obtain a certificate valid across the European Union. Volunteering opportunities are available for young people aged between 18 and 30.

You will not receive a salary but the EU will provide tickets, accommodation, meals, medical insurance and a small monthly allowance.

Study at a European school in Georgia

The Eastern Partnership European School was established in 2018 in Tbilisi for students from all Eastern Partner countries, including Belarus. If you are student aged 16-17, you are eligible for a one-year scholarship. The scholarship will be renewed for a second and last year based on your academic performance. At the end of the two-year study cycle graduates receive an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with a specialisation in European Studies.

The scholarship includes tuition fees, accommodation, meals and medical insurance. It also covers your flights between Tbilisi and your usual place of residence during school holidays.

EARN A UNIVERSITY DEGREE IN LITHUANIA

The European Humanities University in Vilnius offers undergraduate, graduate and doctorate study programmes in humanities, social sciences and art. More than 3200 students, most of them from Belarus, have already graduated from the university since its founding in Minsk in 1992.

EHU is a liberal arts University where critical thinking and civic engagement are at centre of the teaching and learning experience. By means of internalisation and community engagement EHU students are empowered to develop innovative ideas and projects. All graduates receive diplomas recognised across the European Union and North America.

EU grants covering 50% or 100% of the tuition fees are available based on student portfolios that represent academic, civic and creative performance. Without a grant, tuition fees for Belarusian citizens and residents amount to between 500 EUR and 1200 EUR per semester depending on the study

programme.

Travel allowances are also available, as well as separate grants from the Lithuanian government and other donors.

Undergraduate study programmes are offered in high residence and low residence (distance learning). Graduate study programmes combine on-campus sessions and distance learning.

Admission procedures differ slightly for Master's degrees and doctoral degrees.

Develop partnerships in Europe

The MOST mobility scheme allows Belarusian professionals to establish contacts with counterparts in Europe. MOST is popular among professionals employed in science and technology but also in culture, education, tourism, health and other spheres. Make your engineering project a reality

Fully equipped laboratories were established at two universities in Minsk in 2018 to encourage innovation and support job creation among aspiring engineers. You are an engineering student? Then visit the laboratories to develop prototypes and present your projects to entrepreneurs.

Create your agricultural business

If you live in a small town or a village in the Minsk, Homieĺ or Viciebsk regions, you may have access to training in how to create and run an agricultural business under the "EU4Youth: School Garden for agricultural entrepreneurship" project. Thanks to industrial incubators and gardens established in local schools, you will have a chance to learn about organic farming, build your entrepreneurial skills and improve your chances of finding employment in the agricultural sector. Become one of the 6000 young people who will benefit from this unique programme.

More than 50 schools in total will participate in the programme.

Distance learning and e-courses will be available from 2020.

Develop your potential

If you live in a rural area of the Mahilioŭ and Homieĺ regions, the "EU4Youth: Fostering potential for greater employability" project offers you opportunities for non-formal learning courses, professional orientation workshops, job fairs, the possibility to participate in an international Leadership Academy, and a "training kit" on youth entrepreneurship to help you develop your entrepreneurial ideas.

The project is designed for vulnerable youths, including people with disabilities, young people from single-parent families, victims of trafficking, refugees, former convicts, people with HIV, and others.

Improve your job prospects

Acquire essential skills and enter the labour market with the help of the "EU4Youth: Employability and stability" project. Participating young people will have a chance to receive vocational training, take an internship, get support in developing their business proposals and look for funding to establish their own start-up.

The training courses are open to young people aged 15-35 from Minsk and the Minsk region who either come from vulnerable families or live in alternative care institutions.

Individual Development Plans will be established for each of the participants to help them map out and achieve their personal and professional goals.

DEVELOP GREEN SKILLS

Are you interested in environmental protection, energy efficiency and green technologies? A new training centre at the Eco-techno-park in Volma offers state-of-the-art training to both students and professionals. The training courses are conducted in modern laboratories and are open to secondary-school, college and university students as well as professionals and young people undergoing vocational training.

Training includes courses on renewable energy technologies, photoelectric panels, heat pumps, solar collectors, energy preservation, and much more.

Leadership and networking

Represent Europe and meet like-minded youths

The Young European Ambassadors initiative brings together young people aged 16-25 from European Union and Eastern partner countries. The ambassadors encourage local youth engagement, share experiences and discuss matters of concern to young people. There are currently 47 Young European Ambassadors in Belarus who are actively involved in EU-related activities at home and abroad. Join the network!
