On October 26, 2016, at the International Conference on Fostering Sustainable Development of Eastern Partnership Countries, six Belarusian cities and provinces signed the Declaration of Accession to the Covenant of Mayors, including Mahilioŭ, Kličau, Vilieijka, Šarkaŭščyna, Vietka and Versa.
By acceding to the initiative, the cities and provinces undertook to reduce CO2 emissions in their territories by 30% by the year 2030. The next step for the signatories will be the development of Sustainable Climate and Energy Development Action Plans within two years by all stakeholders.
Ecopartnership International NGO was officially granted the Covenant Advocate status; thus, it undertook to provide expert support and promote the Covenant of Mayors on Climate and Energy initiative on local, regional and national levels.
The conference is attended by more than 350 high officials from ministries, agencies and other structures supporting the Mayor Covenant initiative, the Covenant signatory cities, and other stakeholders.
