IX International Draughts Tournament for Children Living in SOS Children’s Villages

IX International Draughts Tournament for teams of orphaned children from various countries will take place in SOS Children’s Village Mar'ina Horka on November 3 and 4. It is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of SOS Children’s Villages in Belarus.

International Draughts Tournaments in SOS Children’s Village Mari'na Horka have been held since 2008. Over the years, the tournament has become an important tradition for orphaned children from various countries, giving the children an opportunity to visit other countries, learn more about the culture of other peoples, to communicate with their peers, and to share their achievements.

The 2016 tournament will gather the teams of SOS Children’s Villages from Belarus (Mar'ina Horka, Mahilioŭ and Baraŭijany). As part of the ceremony of closing the tournament and awarding the winners, a popular songwriter, singer and entertainer Ivan Vabischevich (Dyadya Vanya) will perform his new songs. Svetlana Briukhanova, a well-known Russian actress and the lead character of TV series “Muhtar’s Return” which is being shot in Minsk at the moment, will also visit the tournament. The closing ceremony was organized with the help of an accomplished and socially-minded business man Alexander Deyev, a representative of the IT sector, who also provided sponsor support to the whole event. He also provides support to other charitable organizations and has already become a great friend of SOS Children’s Villages.

International NGO “SOS Children’s Village” has been helping orphaned children in Belarus to regain a mother, brothers and sisters, a cozy home, a happy childhood and a secure future for 25 years already. As of today, 263 orphaned children live in three SOS Children’s Villages (in Borovlyany, Marina Gorka, and Mogilev) and two Youth Homes. Besides, the organization actively works in the sphere of social orphanhood prevention, family strengthening, increasing the quality of education for children with special educational needs, and the promotion of children’s rights.
