The energy-efficient school is opening in Dzerzhinsk

The ceremonial opening of Dzerzhinsk Secondary School No. 4, State Educational Establishment, after the efficiency-saving upgrade will be held on November 11, 2016, in Dzerzhinsk.

The state-of-the-art energy-efficient technologies providing double reduction in energy consumption have been introduced in the school due to the implementation of EU UNDP project "Energy-efficiency in schools”.

Solar energy collectors and heat utilizers to warm the inlet air are installed on the roof, walls and roofing are provided with heat insulation, and regular windows are replaced with triple-pane windows. Moreover, the energy-consuming process equipment in the kitchen is eliminated, incandescent lamps are replaced with energy-saving lamps, and heating appliances are protected with heat-reflective screens.

In addition to the technical part, the educational aspect is of no less importance for implementation of the project. The teaching staff plays a very important role in the work with the pupils: the specialists of the project have prepared for the staff the issue-related workshops and seminars aimed at comprehensive explanation of complex energy-saving aspects. The teachers having attended the trainings share their knowledge and experience with other teachers during different educational events, and introduce energy-efficiency classes into the academic activities. Different events for parents and for the local society in general are being organized in cooperation with the pupils.

The project has established the concept of Emergency Energy Aid comprehensively explaining the nature of the technologies presented by the project and demonstrating the benefits of use of renewable power sources by means of animated commercials, comics, and coloring books.

Dzerzhinsk Secondary School No. 4, State Educational Establishment, the pilot facility within “Energy-efficiency in schools” project, will serve as the demonstration of the complex approach in implementation of energy-efficient measures.

This is the third facility within “Energy-efficiency in schools” project to be opened after the energy-saving upgrade. The ceremonial opening of two day care centers, where similar technologies had been introduced, was held in Grodno and Oshmyany in September.

The project is implemented with the financial support of the European Union and Dzerzhinsk District Executive Committee. UN Development Program (EU UNDP) in the Republic of Belarus and the Department for Energy Efficiency of Gosstandart of the Republic of Belarus act as the executors of the project.
