A contest of environmental initiatives and a contest for creation of 'green school' resource centres are held in Belarus

A contest of ecological initiatives is held from August 1 through October 31, 2018, under the project on Civic Engagement in Environmental Monitoring and Improving Environmental Management at the Local Level. The project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in Belarus in partnership with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus.

The project is aimed at efficient and inclusive local-level environmental management, environmental risk monitoring, exchange of environmental information, in particular, in the field of ambient air quality.

The contest objective is to reinforce the capacity of civil community organization for comprehensive engagement in decision-making on ecological issues and supporting specific activities nature conversation and sustainable development.

The initiatives must facilitate improvement of the capacity of Belarusian entities including civil community organizations dealing with air quality monitoring and ecological education; they must promote expansion of ecologically sustainable activities.

To qualify for funding, an initiative must meet at least one of the following top-priority areas:
√   rational use of natural resources and implementation of practical activities improving the state of the environment
√   ecological tourism
√   biological diversity preservation and sustainable use of biological resources and lands
√   waste management
√   ambient air quality improvement
√   expansion of the use of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency\
√   development of ecological education

Only applications from officially registered civil community organizations (see more details in the Contest Policy) will be eligible for participation in the Contest, which applies to the initiative implementation by both a civil community organization or by an organized partnership.

A civil community organization may submit an unlimited number of applications; however, no more than one initiative may receive funding.
The overall funding allocated for the initiatives is Euro 1,000,000. The funding requested from the project for one ecological initiative may amount to Euro 50,000-100,000 in US Dollar equivalent of the UNDP exchange rate as of the application date. The duration of an ecological initiative is up to 18 months The project provides to allocate up to Euro 1,000, 000 for funding ecological initiatives
