The Belarusian cities-signatories of the Covenant of Mayors on Climate and Energy will find it more convenient to exchange experience and solve problems. In August, 2018, the Club of the Covenant of Mayors began to operate, to which any city-participant of the initiative can join and make suggestions on further work.
Members of the Club of the Covenant of Mayors on Climate and Energy in the Republic of Belarus may be local authorities and their associations, as well as interested public organizations, ministries and departments, financial and research institutions, donor organizations, and representatives of the private sector.
Participation in the Club will help cities exchange best practices on sustainable energy development and climate; to develop and implement joint projects in these areas; to seek for opportunities to attract grants, investments and credit resources.
The idea of creating the Club was proposed by the participants of the first national conference of the Covenant of Mayors on Climate and Energy in Belarus, which was held in 2017 in Vilejka. On the basis of the proposals received, the Structures for Supporting the Covenant of Mayors - IPO "Ecopartnership" and the "Interaction" Foundation - developed a draft provision on the Club and sent out to the signatory cities with the proposal to join.
The Club of the Covenant of Mayors will work in the following formats:
- conference of participants;
- meetings of the Club members and expert groups;
- maintaining a database of successful projects implemented by the members of the Club of the Covenant of Mayors;
- conducting contact-cooperation meetings with representatives of international organizations, donors and financial institutions;
- holding joint information events.
