Cities participating in the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy annually hold vivid events for their residents on the topic of energy saving and climate change. Under the general title of "Energy Days” such events in the summer of 2018 have already held more than 25 cities and timed them to the European Sustainable Energy Week. We present to your attention a brief overview of the most memorable Energy Days.
This year the IPO "Ecopartnership" and Interakcia Foundation with the financial support of the European Union helped to organize an interesting program and hand over souvenirs to cities.
In Vilejka, the Energy Days annually become one of the brightest events held in the Belarusian cities-signatories. Throughout June Viliejka conducted environmental events in educational institutions, and on June 30, within the Youth Subculture Festival "Energy of Youth", a solemn closing of the Energy Days in the city recreation park was held. There were competitions of wrestlers, skaters, bicyclists, scientific experiments were demonstrated and self-made eco-bags were manufactured.
Sustainable energy week in Braslaŭ included seminars, conferences, games, contests, freeroll competitions, freerolls, cycling. Center for Environmental Solutions helped Local authorities and public organizations to organize a rich program. A feature of the Week was the opening of the photo exhibition "Projects in faces". The exposition tells about the projects implemented with support of the Delegation of the European Union in Belarus and represents people who are involved in activities in different regions of the country.
Viciebsk hosted a hackathon on the topic Smart City, where programmers, designers, environmentalists and simply active Viciebsk people came up with useful IT tools for solving environmental problems of the city. Public lectures and urban talks with experts from Belarusian, Russian and international companies became the bonus for the participants.
Brest is one of the few cities that has prepared for its residents free tours to housing and utilities enterprises, where energy-efficient technologies are introduced. The main events were traditionally held in the city park and on a pedestrian street. Among them are eco-quests, drawing contests, shares in the collection of electronic / electrical equipment waste, exhibition-fair of energy-efficient goods and technologies. Teachers of universities spoke about sustainable energy and climate change with the lectures.
Mscislaŭ during the Energy Days more than others involved online tools for involving residents of the city. Everyone could take part in voting for the best photos and slogans on a special thematic site. The Energy Days ended with an ecological holiday, which gathered schoolchildren from all over the region, as well as relatives, friends and teachers. Participants even could play the game "What? Where? When?" On the topic of sustainable energy.
In Hlybokaje during the Energy Days, events were organized not only for residents but also for specialists in the housing and utilities services sector who were able to visit Navahrudak and study the experience of colleagues. A flash measure was the flash mob for the launch of balloons.
During the Energy Days, cities could use press releases prepared by IPO "Ecopartnership" and make a series of materials on the Covenant of Mayors for placement in local media. Also, 12 cities took part in the contest "Slogan of your city", which for the Energy Days was organized by the IPO "Ecopartnership" within the framework of the project "Strengthening the Covenant of Mayors Movement in Belarus", funded by the European Union under the EU4Energy initiative. The winners received a poster with a slogan and souvenirs.
