Project on monitoring of small rivers starts in Paliessie region

Small rivers in Pripyat river basin are contaminated. How to solve this problem together with locals? EU-funded project “Cross-border water inspectors” started in border regions of Belarus and Ukraine.

Within the framework of project 20 public ecological posts will be organized in Pinsk (Belarus) and Lubeshiv (Ukraine) districts. Their participants will be 20 adults and 200 schoolchildren. They will monitor condition of rivers, lakes and wells in these districts and conduct 20 campaigns on water examination and coasts cleaning.

They will seek for blockages, littered places on rives as well as analyze chemical composition of water through compact chemical laboratories. Information will be uploaded on special website or passed directly to district inspections of nature resources and environmental protection. It will help inspections to take timely decisions. Together with that, locals will get to know about problems of small rivers which drain in their towns and villages.

We want to draw attention of local population to problems of small rivers. Not only quality of water we drink depends on their condition Rivers and their coasts is home for birds, plants and living organisms, says Sviatlana Paddubnaya, Project Manager of “Cross-border Water Inspectors”

Cross-border summer camp will take place in Pinsk district this August. It will gain more than two hundred schoolchildren from Pinsk and Lubeshiv districts. Camp will happen during August 16-22 and finish with water festival.

Together with that, waterpipe will be installed in village Zapollie in Pinsk district as well as recreation area equipped near river Korostynka in Lubeshiv district within the framework of project.

Project “Cross-border water inspectors” is co-funded by the European Union within Eastern Partnership Territorial Cooperation Programme Belarus Ukraine. Project is being implemented by Pinsk District Executive Committee (leading partner) and Interakcia Foundation from Belarusian side and Department of Education, Youth and Sport of Lubeshiv District State Administration and Lubeshiv Ecological Organization “World Around Us” from Ukrainian side.
