The European Union supports business initiatives that will improve entrepreneurial environment in Barysaŭ, Braslaŭ and Chojniki districts. New entrepreneurship support centers will become integrators and generators of innovative business ideas; provide local entrepreneurs with new knowledge, technologies and business models. The new centers will provide young people, people with disabilities, women, and the elderly with an opportunity to participate in economic activities.
Creation of entrepreneurship support infrastructure will contribute to the growth of SMEs, strengthening the private sector and local initiative. This will help Belarusian economy overcome consequences of COVID-19 and increase the pace of economic growth in the future.
“We expect that new entrepreneurship support structures will become centers of attraction for good business ideas and multiplication of successful experience for local businessmen and individual entrepreneurs,” – commented Dmitry Matusevich, National project coordinator, deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Belarus.
“We hope that the experience of the newly created initiatives will be so successful that it can be applied in other regions of Belarus. I am sure, that implementation of initiatives aimed at establishing business support infrastructure in the regions will create new jobs, increase the well-being of people and tax collection in local budgets. All this is even more important in a situation of economic uncertainty,” – said Dirk Schuebel, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Belarus.
Alexandra Solovieva, Resident Representative of UNDP in Belarus, emphasized that the newly created business support centers will work in the new economic realities. “The challenges which small businesses in the regions are facing today provide unique opportunities for a reboot and can become a driver for transformation, awakening potential and new growth in various sectors of the economy. New prospects for growth can be seen in such areas as education, medicine, informational technologies, IT consulting, manufacture of household appliances, tourism,” – said Alexandra Solovieva.
Initiatives from the Barysaŭ, Braslaŭ and Chojniki districts became the winners of the contest of initiatives aimed at establishing business support infrastructure. An online awarding ceremony took place on 5 May, 2020.
The contest of initiatives aimed at establishing business support infrastructure is a part of the "Support to Economic Development at the Local Level in the Republic of Belarus" Project. The project is funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Ministry of Economy of Belarus.
