The project aims to strengthen knowledge-based journalism and the capacities of communication / media centres, freelancers, and multipliers, located in both the EU and in countries covered by the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP-East and ENP-South), in reliable, professional and data-driven reporting, encompassing the national characteristics of and expertise in EU-ENP mutual relations and regional ethnography. It is also offering a unique opportunity to develop a network of professional contacts between media professionals from the EU Member States and the ENP countries, which are regions the project is addressed to.
The project includes on-line courses and the possibility to take part in in-person workshops with authors of the courses, organized at the College of Europe Natolin Campus. The courses, developed by experts and practitioners in the field of journalism, address such themes as: Disinformation in the media; Open-data and investigative journalism; Multimedia journalism; Value-based and conflict-sensitive reporting; Monetisation, EU funding and financial sustainability.
Other, optional courses with possibility of scoring points for the final rankings, deal with various horizontal issues related to the EU and the EU policies.
The workshops at the Natolin campus of the College of Europe will be followed by field training in the form of study visits to an EU country for ENP participants or an ENP country for EU participants, where local media issues will be explored. The workshops at the Natolin campus of the College of Europe and the study visits will be free-of-charge for the participants (travel costs, board and lodging, local transportation).
Participants interested in taking part in on-site workshops will be expected to complete at least one journalistic craft-related on-line course. While the selection criteria will also include geographical and gender distribution of participants, the higher the number of completed courses and points obtained, the higher the chances to qualify for the on-site workshops. Successful candidates will include media professionals, although a number of places have also been reserved for candidates who are not directly working in the media sector, but are involved in media-related activities (students of journalism, active social media users engaged in publicly important activities, etc.).
The registrations have been opened on the project website (“Register”). The deadline for completion of on-line courses is 13 October 2019.
