11 environmental initiatives are helping to maintain biodiversity

World Environment Day is celebrated on 5 June as a professional day for all conservationists, environmentalists, public leaders and eco-activists.

This year, eleven civil society organisations keep implementing their projects to improve the environment in Belarus.

The environmental initiatives contest washeld in Belarus from 1 August through 31 October 2018 under the project Civic engagement in environmental monitoring and imroving environmental management at the local level, which is funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP with support from the Ministry of Nature and Environmental Protection.

The contest winners are employed in such areas, as waste management, rational use of natural resources, ecotourism, air quality improvement, use of renewable energy sources and development of eco-training.

All these activities help support biodiversity in Belarus, and, in the lead-up to World Environment Day, in a brief video clip, representatives of environmental initiatives give an account how their projects are engaged in these efforts.
