Marjina Horka Residents Collect Waste and Get Souvenirs

In October Puchavičy Raion joined ‘Zrobim’ (‘We’ll Do It!’) waste collection action. In the course of the action, volunteers cleaned up the Titovka river banks and attended a master class on colouring gypsum figurines.

Everyone wishing to make Marjina Horka cleaner, could come to the Titovka children's beach, where Yulia Silchinskaya, the action local coordinator, distributed bin bags and gloves. With the gear, the action participants roamed along the river in search of empty bottles, plastic bags and other waste. More than 30 persons – both adults and adolescents – took part in the action. They collected seven 120-litter bags of litter.

After the collection, the local coordinator distributed among the participants bags and magnets with an image of a waste-sorting octopus. The image is the logo of the EU Project on Waste Management Development in Puchavičy Raion. In addition, everyone had a chance to colour and collect a gypsum figurine of the octopus.

The call for joining ‘Zrobim’ Action was taken up by other communities of Puchavičy Raion as well. Thus, a Rudziensk volunteer cleaned a site by the railroad, and she will get a souvenir, too.

‘Zrobim’ – a river, forest and park cleaning volunteer action – has been held in Belarus since 2012. It is known in other countries as Let's Do It; it started with Estonia in 2008, when 50,000 persons throughout the country went out in one day to collect trash.  The number of participating countries increases every year; now, the action is supported in 112 countries. Latest reports of the October action are available at the action web site, www.letsdoit.by.

In Puchavičy Raion, ‘Zrobim’ Action was held with the support from the EU Project on Puchavičy Raion Waste Management Development.
