European Union to provide 2.2 million Euro for 126 local development initiatives

As many as 352 applications have been received for the Main Contest of Local Initiatives within the EU-UNDP project “Support to Local Development in the Republic of Belarus”, and 126 local initiatives have been selected for the final stage of the contest. 

Regional development is one of the main priorities of the EU-Belarus cooperation. This programme focuses on strengthening the capacity of not-for-profit organizations, businesses and authorities to pioneer area-based development approach at the local level.

The European Union will fund local initiatives in 30 pilot districts of Belarus. The total amount of the EU funding will be 2.2 million euro. All of the contestants proposed their ideas for local development. At least 10% of the budgets of each initiative are co-financed from local sources.

Local initiatives will be focusing on various issues, including the improvement of local infrastructure, social services and social inclusion, the promotion of healthy lifestyle, economic development and boosting employment, environmental protection, tourism potential and preservation of cultural and historical sites, etc.

The project "Support to Local Development in the Republic of Belarus" is funded by the European Union and implemented by the UNDP in partnership with the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus, local authorities and civil society.
