Information Day "Religious Confessions for an Attitude of Care towards Nature" was held in Hrodna Region

An information day titled "Religious Confessions for an Attitude of Care towards Nature" was held in Lida at the very end of February. It was attended by more than 100 participants including representatives of Russian Orthodox, Catholic and Judaic confessions, Sunday school pupils, representatives of local authorities, as well as educational, ecological organisations and initiatives of Hrodna Region and the city of Minsk.

Welcoming speeches were delivered by Yelena Meleshkova, Deputy Manager of Analysis, Science and Information Department of the Ministry of Nature of the Republic of Belarus and Tomas Stravinskas, Project Manager of the EU delegation to Belarus.

The event provided a platform for discussing the opportunities of introduction of environmental education and upbringing into the religious organisations' activities with adolescents and youth. The participants presented their developments and agreed on cooperation.

A weaving master class was held within the framework of the event for pupils of the Russian Orthodox Sunday school at the Shrine of Saint George the Great Martyr and Victory Bearer (in Lida).

The information day was held under the project "Civic engagement in environmental monitoring and improving environmental management at the local level", which is financed by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Project in Belarus in partnership with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus.
