The third conference of the Covenant of Mayors to take place in Belarus on 25-26 April

The third conference of the Covenant of Mayors is to take place in Polack, Belarus, on 25-26 April 2019. 45 Belarusian cities and towns, as well as 8,800 cities and towns of Europe, have acceded to the European initiative on reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

The key discussion points will cover financial mechanisms available for cities and towns participating in the Covenant of Mayors. Energy and climate action plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by the year 2030, which are developed after a city/town is acceded to the initiative, expand funding opportunities. The plans may include activities in various urban management areas, from transportation to thermal insulation of buildings.

The conference will be especially focused on improving multi-apartment building energy performance, reducing GHG emissions related to waste management, adapting to climate change, as well as on urban green infrastructure.
The Belarus and Europe’s best innovative practices of local climate change mitigation in will be presented at the conference.

The conference agenda comprises both presentations and panel discussions, visits to energy-efficiency showcase sites, as well as historical facilities. Polack is both the oldest Eastern Slavic town, and the first town in Belarus to sign the Covenant of Mayors.

The conference is held under the EU-funded Strengthening the Covenant of Mayors Movement in Belarus project.

The event is co-organised by Ecopartnership International NGO, Polack District Executive Committee, Energy Efficiency Department of the State Committee for Standardization, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus, Interaktsia Foundation and the GEF/UNDP Green Cities project.

Registration at the conference website is open until 10 April 2019.

The organisers will provide registered participants with a round trip from Minsk to Polack, as well as with hotel accommodation and meals according to the conference agenda.
