The results of the Contest of local initiatives on the Covenant of Mayors aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving climate resilience at the local level have been announced.
The Contest was held within EU project “Strong CoM – Strengthening the Covenant of Mayors Movement in Belarus”. Local Authorities and CSOs from the cities and towns Covenant of Mayors signatures might apply. More than 60 applications participated in the Contest. Members of the Coordination Committee of the Project selected 10 winners.
Local Initiatives of CSOs will get financial aid from 7000 to 10 000 Euro and Local Authorities from 35 000 to 45 000 Euro.
The list of winners from the CSO’s is as follows:
· Mahiliou Environmental Social Association "ENDO", Chavusy, “Chavusy business - care for climate as the first step to corporate social responsibility”;
· Cultural and Educational Institution Center of Urbanistic Projects and Initiatives “Prastora”, Viciebsk, “Less CO2 - more life”;
· Local Fund «Partnership in Action», Bielaaziorsk, initiative “Learn to save together”;
· Public Organization «ZOViK», Vilijka region, initiative “Movement as a way of reducing emissions”;
· Public Organization «Bona», initiative «Kobryn Saves the Climate of the Planet»;
· Braslau regional public association of cross border cooperation “Euroregion “Ozerny Krai”, initiative «Climate and energy is an educational strategy. Establishment of a regional resource center on support of Covenant of Mayors Initiative”;
The list of winners from the number of Local Authorities is as follows:
· Chavusy District Executive Committee “Green technologies for sustainable energy development in Chavusy”;
· Brest City executive Committee “ Implementation of energy-efficient measures at urban municipal property objects - boiler houses of Brest, that stimulate the reduction of CO2 emissions”;
· Hlybokaje District Executive Committee “The first step towards promoting the obligations of the Glubokoe District in the Covenant of Mayors"
· Kobryn District Executive Committee “With concern for the future! We are for environmentally friendly and safe urban transport ”
Implementation of local initiatives is planned for the period from July 2017 to December 2018. In May 2017 an educational meeting for the winners of the contest on the implementation of local initiatives will be organized in Minsk.
