Description

The countries jointly provide for environmental safety of trans-boundary rivers crossing their territories. This regional project is aimed at improving the environment of the Black Sea basin comprising a number of Belarusian rivers.

Goals and Objectives: Improve water quality in the trans-boundary river basins of the wider Black Sea region and Belarus and develop their management plan according to the requirements of the EU Water Framework Directive. Improve the availability and quality of data on the ecological and chemical status of trans-boundary river basins.

Intermediate outcomes: An analysis of the risks of contamination and impacts on Belarusian water bodies was presented in May 2014. It pointed out flow discontinuities and the absence of fishways.

The Belarus River Basin Management Plan was developed as well (based on the Upper Dnieper Basin Pilot Project), according to the requirements of the EU Water Framework Directive.

Technical regulations were developed to make laboratory monitoring of water quality more efficient and regular.
