Description

In February 2014, the town of Braslaŭ signed the Covenant of Mayors, undertaking the commitment to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20% before the year 2020. By the year 2030, Braslaŭ District – a popular tourist recreation area – should become the first climatically neutral municipality in Belarus. It is planned to achieve these ambitious objectives through the use of renewable energy sources and promotion of energy efficiency ideas. Reduction of energy consumption would help the region save budget funds every year.

Project Goal: Develop, adopt and launch the implementation of a strategic action plan on the transformation of Braslaŭ district into the first climatically neutral municipality in Belarus until 2030. Contribute to CO2 reduction by 20% by the year 2020 with reduction of energy consumption and introduction of state-of-the-art approaches to energy management.

Intermediate Outcomes: The installation of a heat pump and efficient boilers in the central boiler plant, as well as the replacement of a district heating pump by a more energy-efficient one would help reduce energy consumption. It is planned to fit out the sections of multi-apartment and public buildings with heat exchange units and sound and motion sensors.  Solar thermal collectors will be installed on the roof of the nursery/kindergarten. Five per cent of the city lighting system will be replaced with light-emitting diodes. The involvement of local residents into the process of energy saving will become a key objective of the Project.
