New ideas and real projects: results of the forum PraRovar-2019

The third international forum PraRovar-2019 was held in Homieĺ on October 25-27. The largest bicycle forum in Belarus brought together 150 participants from 20 cities and 5 countries. The event was attended by the leadership of Homieĺ and the Homieĺ region, traffic police, representatives of city administrations, activists, university teachers, planners and experts.

A very rich program was drawn up for three days of the forum: public lectures, free presentations, workshops, trainings, discussions and a new format of interaction – “quick meetings” with experts.

In addition, Homieĺ activists prepared a cycling and walking tour, a fashion show of clothes for cycling, a bike ride and and large-scale flash mob. Also within the framework of the forum, testing of sharing of bicycles and electric scooters took place. The service is already available in Minsk and Brest, where it has a positive effect on the share of bike rides. As it became known later, in the spring, sharing will come to Homieĺ.

During the forum, the main focus was on the development of cycling in the regions. Representatives of public organizations and initiatives from all over Belarus shared the news for the year that has passed since the past PraRovar: successes, problems and plans. It has become a good tradition to be inspired by each other's ideas, refine them and implement original projects.

On the forum such important topics as urban development, cycling, the popularization of cycling and environmental lifestyle, business opportunities were also discussed.

The forum was organized within the framework of the project “Urban cycling in Belarus”, funded by the European Union, implemented by the Center for Environmental Solutions and the public association Minsk Cycling Community, co-financing of the Global Environment Facility project Small Grants Program “Development of Cycling in the Regions of Belarus”, implemented by the Minsk Cycling Community. Supported by the Homieĺ Regional Executive Committee in partnership with the Velo Homieĺ Public Association.
