The Results of a Journalist Contest on EU Belarus Projects are Drawn Up

The winners of the contest for the best publication, photo report, video or radio spot on the EU project activities in Belarus received their awards in the Office of the Delegation of the European Union to Belarus. The contest was dedicated to the launch of the euprojects.by thematic web-site offering detailed presentation of over 400 projects currently implemented in Belarus with the EU financial support.

Halina Sidarovich, Science and High School Unit Editor in the Nastaŭnickaya Gazeta, won the first prize in the Best Media Publication category for her publication "BSU Research Team in a Global European Project" about the EC Graphene Flagship Initiative. The project discloses the opportunities offered by the material, which is regarded as a true breakthrough in nanotechnologies.

Another contest winner in the Best Video/Radio Spot category was Alena Berkutava-Vakhrameyeva, a special correspondent of the Belarus Radio Channel One, for a series of materials for the Relevant Microphone programme. The jury preferred the journalist's materials for her profound analytical approach to presentation of the Clima-East projects "Conservation and Sustainable Management of Peatlands in Belarus to Minimize Carbon Emissions and Help Ecosystems to Adapt to Climate Change" and "Support to Local development in the Republic of Belarus".

The main prize for the contest leaders, Halina Sidarovich and Alena Berkutava-Vakhrameyeva, will get an opportunity to attend a professional seminar in an EU country.

The other contest winners were awarded with valuable gifts. The 2nd place in the Best Media Publication category was shared by two journalists. Valery Karankevich (the Svobodnye Novosti Plus newspaper), who described, in an unconventional and emotional manner, the Innovative Waste Management Improvement Project in his publication "Hacimsk copies Europe". Yuliya Tsialtseuskaya (Argumenty i Fakty v Belarusi newspaper), in her material "New Ways of Recreation in Rahačoŭ Rajon" described the bright aspects of the "The World of Information, Culture and Creation for Everyone" project on the development of an efficient cultural and information service network for rural residents. Anastasiya Nazdryna (Varyag TV Channel, Pinsk) ranked second in the Best Video/Radio Spot for a video material on the “Vegetable-Growing Network of Experimentation, Exchange and Dissemination of Information (ExNet) Project”.

The 3rd place in the Best Media Publication was shared by:

Aliaksandr Zayats (TUT.BY portal) for his publication "A Lot of Scrap Emerging on the Market. Who Takes Interest in Certifying Household Equipment?" about the project "Support of the Republic of Belarus in the Area of Norms and Standards of Energy Efficiency of Consumer Goods and Industrial Products"; and Varvara Marozava (The Polack Vestnik newspaper) for a series of publications on the project "PubLiCity: Energy Efficient Modernization of Public Lighting in the City of Polack".

The 3rd place in the Best Video/Radio Spot category was awarded to Viktoryia Piatkevich (the Belarus Radio) for a spot on the Clima-East Project "Conservation and Sustainable Management of Peatlands in Belarus to Minimize Carbon Emissions and Help Ecosystems to Adapt to Climate Change". The jury also marked a photographic series made by Oksana Manchuk (BelTA) with a runner-up prize.
