On February 19, in Polack, the final conference of the PubLiCity project will be held in Steklovolokno cultural center, where the results of the most ambitious modernization of city lighting in Belarus will be presented.
The PubLiCity project has been implemented in Polack since 2015 with financial support from the European Union. Thanks to the project, almost two thousand new LED lamps, new lighting poles, control boxes, and 12 autonomous solar-powered lamps appeared on 28 streets of the city, as well as 26 city objects received new decorative illumination, including the stair to St. Safija Cathedral, the boulevard on Francysk Skaryna Avenue and a bridge over Zachodniaja Dzvina river.
At the conference “Public Lighting in the Cities of Belarus: Present and Future” there will be an opportunity to learn how lighting was modernized in Polack and how the new LED lighting helps the city save energy, as well as discuss with experts the current situation and opportunities for the development of “smart lighting” in Belarus. It is planned that in the framework of the conference, Polack and several other cities of Belarus will sign a declaration on joining the new goals of the Covenant of Mayors on Climate and Energy in order to continue to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
During the conference, panel discussions will be held on urban lighting technologies, as well as on the importance of energy-efficient lighting for sustainable urban development. Technical experts will be able to visit the exhibition of modern equipment for the public lighting modernization.
Everyone will be welcomed to listen to the lecture “Lighting Design in an Urban Environment”. Sergey Sizyi, founder and creative director of the LiDS lighting design studio, a member of the international union of lighting designers IALD, will tell how light works in urban environment and analyze the latest trends in lighting urbanism. The lecture begins at 17.00.
The official opening and demonstration of the new public lighting and control system installed within the framework of the PubLiCity project will take place at the end of the conference at 18.30.
