Description

Graphene is recognized as one of the most promising materials of the future. All current research worldwide is aimed at searching for practical application of that material, as it has unique physical, chemical and electrical properties.

Goals and Objectives:

Research into graphene properties; examination of its nature and widescale manufacturing application within 10 years. Graphene may turn out to be the main competitor to silicone in nano- and micro-electronics. Its unique properties may be used in manufacturing high-frequency electronic devices. This will be a major step in the development of nano-electronics, spur economic growth and create new jobs for specialists in physics, chemistry and materiology.

Intermediate Outcomes:

The team of the Research Institute for Nuclear Problems of Belarusian State University joined Graphene Flagship in 2014, following competitive selection. The researchers are working on the creation of a multi-layer sandwich structure of graphene sheets and thin polymer sheets to provide efficient protection from microwave radiation. Preliminary research findings were published in the Scientific Reports, Applied Physics Letters and Carbon magazines.

Researchers from around the world take part in the annual Graphene Week – a conference where they share their experience and research findings. In 2016, Graphene Week was held in mid-May, at the University of Warsaw.
