Description

Half of the Chojniki District territory is uninhabitable due to the effects of the Chernobyl accident. This complicates social and economic development of the raion: it is difficult for adults to find jobs, and for young people and teenagers to choose a profession.

Project Goals and Objectives: Assist the authorities and residents of Chojniki District with mitigation of the effects of the Chernobyl accident. The Project provides for the implementation of educational and recreational programs facilitating people’s self-actualization, fostering talents and raising the general cultural level.

Intermediate Outcomes: The first meeting of the representatives of the Chojniki District Executive Committee with EU partners was held in February 2016 to discuss details of key activities.

One of the key areas of the project is organization of Italian and English language courses, theatre and music classes and sewing courses, as well as setting up a computer classroom. Cultural and sports events, such as a Health-for-All festival, are scheduled.

Representatives of the authorities will be invited to specialized training courses to help them to recognize the needs of local residents, evaluate their performance, and learn ways of promoting the best European practices.
