Description

The green economy concept is designed to improve the standards of living and social equality, and mitigate environmental risks. A switchover to this model requires new approaches, primarily on the government level.

Goals and Objectives: Define and develop key mechanisms of the green economy development in Belarus. Improve skills of professionals of central public authorities in the area of green economy. Develop a Programme of Actions for the reduction of pollutant emissions in accordance with the Gothenburg Protocol.

Interim outcomes: The Green Economy Guide – the first Belarusian reference book on this topic has been developed.

Experts reviewed the current national laws and compiled a list of recommendations for "greening" the Belarusian economy. Five thematic seminars and study tours to Germany, Denmark and Spain were organized for public officials. In these countries, Belarusian professionals had an opportunity to learn about the latest approaches and innovations in the sphere of green economy in order to carry over the progressive European experience to the Belarusian soil.

Reports on key pollutant emission sources were compiled to develop the Programme of Actions; forecast options until 2030 were provided.
